Now that we’ve kissed the summer, sun, and heat goodbye, it’s time to pucker up for all things crisp, cool, and autumn. Here are five lipstick looks to keep you looking your best and boldest on and off the track.
Warning: autumn lip colours are all about deep, dark plums and wines, so they’re not for the faint of heart.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry
This colour will make it look as if you’d been sipping merlot all day long (sans the unclassy hangover). It’s vampy and works well with all complexions, although it packs more of a punch if you have fair skin.
The formulation is creamy and glides on smoothly, and is very comfortable to wear for long periods. It lasts a long time, too. Even better, it has vitamin E and avocado oil that leave your lips moisturised and nourished.
Bite Beauty Frozen Berries Matte Crème Lipstick in Elderberry
The tube itself is a deliciously deep, rich purple, but you can lightly dab it on for pink kissers with purple undertones. The question is: why would you do that? I highly recommend swiping it on to experience the full effect. Just keep the rest of your makeup to a minimum to avoid clashing the focus with your lips.
I thoroughly approve of the matte black packaging. It’s also very good for your lips, as it has blueberry seed oil, cranberry seed oil, and omega 3,6, and 9.
Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Definition in Le Magenta
Here’s a throwback to summer, for those of you who still can’t let go. The Le Magenta is boldly pink and absolutely party-ready, so you better be sure that you’re ready to have fun when you wear this.
The packaging is luxuriously substantial in weight, and closes with an extremely gratifying magnetic click. I assure you, the whole act of just pulling out your lipstick, applying it, and clicking it closed is as satisfying as the beautiful colour it leaves on your pouters.
MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Living Legend
Living Legend is a gorgeously deep plum with warm undertones, perfect for those still sporting a hangover tan (or if you’re just naturally tan, in which case, lucky you). As far as autumn lip colours go, this should be a staple.
It’s supposed to be matte, but it has a sheen that will persist for about an hour. This lasts for a good six to eight hours, which is certainly enough time for a racing event and an afterparty.
Christian Louboutin Velvet Matte Lip Colour in Djalouzi
Look. How. Beautiful. This is. And we’re just talking about the packaging at this point! Christian (we’re first-name basis friends, natch) understands that “lipstick is woman’s magic wand,” and so he “transforms a forgotten object into a treasured jewel.” And as is appropriate with jewels, this gorgeous lipstick comes in a velvet-lined box. Isn’t that perfect?
Djalouzi (which sounds exactly like the kind of expensive envy you want to provoke in others) is a deep plum that goes well with cool and warm tones. The pigment is intense and the formulation is nourishing.
