Rent a Dress for Spring Racing Carnival — My Top 10 Picks

You heard me. This Spring Racing Carnival, try not to buy new frocks: rent a dress instead.

If you know me at all, you’ll know that I love, love, love dressing up. It’s one of the reasons that the season is so close to my heart. Well, that and the fact that I do love horses and am married to a horse trainer.

While I’m incredibly excited about all the upcoming races and parties, I’m also super excited about the fact that you can actually rent a dress instead of buying one. Getting dolled up is a lot of fun, but it can also get pretty expensive.

Enter GlamCorner, a designer dress hire store that’s taking the party scene by storm. Think about the genius of this scheme, ladies:

  1. You can wear 4-5 spring racing dresses (all designer ones, to boot) for the price of buying a single brand new outfit.
  2. You’re practically insured against trends — no more sighing about spending all that money on a single race day dress that you can’t wear again next season (or even to the next race!).
  3. It’s like having a virtually unlimited closet (every fashionista’s dream).
  4. More people besides yourself will love and benefit from that beautiful outfit, even after you’re done with it. It’s good for the environment!

That last part is something the fashion world is really focusing on right now: this year’s Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is highlighting ethical and sustainable fashion.

GlamCorner has a wide variety of carefully selected race day dresses, all of them available in different sizes. Here are my top 10 picks if you want to rent a dress.

    Hello Nina,
Please don’t forget that a lot of racegoers are over 50. We like to look good too. But…most of my friends like to cover our arms and decollete and certainly can’t wear above the knee skirts or bodycon styles. The majority of the women in the racing syndicates I belong to are 50 and over and we attend race meetings wherever our horses are running….Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart plus regional, areas. We also like to spend money on racewear but find it almost impossible to buy for this agegroup, especially during summer. Not interested in hiring dresses either.
Could you provide some ideas and links for us?
    Thank you

Hi Kerry, thank you so much for your feedback. Going forward I will most certainly provide ideas on what ladies in their 50’s should wear to a race day. My mother in law has been an avid race goer for over 40 years and I have styled her on may occasions. I certainly have plenty of experience and I look forward to providing stylish ideas for future race days. Kindest, Nina x
